Gumshoe is a system that can
1) Be adapted to any setting
2) Fits naturally for all kinds of investigation stories
3) Has easy enough rules.
Welcome, fans of the Protectors of the Plot Continuum and supporters of the Canon Protection Initiative! If you've got a story to plug, an opinion to share, or a discussion you want to join in, this is the place!
If you're looking for PPC stories to read, why not start with The Original Series – the missions of the famous assassins Jay and Acacia, the very first stories in PPC history. Once you've finished them, check out the list of Killed Badfic to find a mission you like the look of, or The Complete List of PPC Fiction to look up specific agents or departments.
Before you join the fun, there are some important links you should know about. Being familiar with these will save you a lot of hassle!
This list is also available as a Atom/RSS feed
I feel like they play some form of one of those on the Discord sometime, so you might get a decent response, I don't know.
So, second question: what makes Gumshoe particularly suited for the PPC? You clearly had something in mind when you suggested it, and I'd like to know a little more. :)
hS
Welcome back to the fold! In lieu of any weird or world-ending gift I would like to once again present this here Obligatory Discord Link, so hop on if you feel the need!
Welcome back to the fold! If you're interested, I present to you an Obligatory Discord Link. It has pretty much supplanted the old IRC, so hop on if you're interested!
TTRPG stands for Tabletop Role-Playing-Game. It is a roleplaying game (duh) that has a ruleset of some sort. Usually, there is one Game Master, responsible for the plot of the game and the world around the characters and a number of players, who represent their characters.
What's a TTRPG? And what makes it particularly suited for the PPC? (In other words, what gave you this idea?)
hS
Hi there. I got an idea. What if we make a TTRPG where you play as Agents? There is a really great system for investigative TTRPG that can be adapted to any needs: Gumshoe. If you are interested, message me on Discord for the link for the docs where the work is going to happen. SansCipher#5719
I actually got an email from Creepy Stalker LJ the day after I posted telling me that Anchusa had just posted. Anchusa! I don't think we've seen her here since 2004! Now that you've confirmed they emailed some people about my post, I wonder whether I accidentally triggered her returning over there...
hS
I swing past and lurk on the Board every now and then but I haven't posted anything for a couple of years, so it wasn't really an official parting of ways or anything.
TBH I actually just got an email notification saying that you'd posted on LJ is how I even knew about it.
Hopefully I will stick around and who knows maybe even finish that third mission I started almost 10 years ago!
Elcalion, procrastinatory
We're gonna get a ton of returning posters in the next few weeks, aren't we? For your gift (do you even need one?) have a portable nuclear jetpack.
Regarding an official PPC location, I think that's probably just a bit too expensive; but following on from this ancient thread may I suggest the town of Canon, Georgia?
Great to see some familiar names coming out of the woodwork!

Whoa it's been a while - a year or two since I posted on the Board, and more like 5 years since I was regularly around. Sad as I am to see the old Board go, ~15 years after I first heard about it, I'm glad that we've got a new community.
Howdy to all the new people - I don't suppose many now remember me, but I was a regular here from about 2005 onwards and I'm responsible for the ESAS agents (even though I only ever finished a couple of missions).
And now news: Tolkien's old house in Oxford is for sale! https://www.breckon.co.uk/properties-for-sale/oxfordshire/SUM190036
Only £4,575,000 so a bargain - but if we all chip in I'm sure we can buy it to make it the Official RL Home of the PPC. Sorry New Caledonia!
Elcalion, prodigal
The final trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker has dropped. Five years ago I did an analysis of the first trailer for The Force Awakens; it seems only appropriate that I do the same for the final entry in the Saga.
Spoilers I guess, but... well, it's a trailer, and the only thing I reference that isn't explicit in the trailer at that point... becomes explicit later. So yeah, if you watch the trailer you should be fine.
We open on Rey running around on Isla Nublar a lovely jungle planet. With her lightsaber lit. Which seems like a bit of a risk to me, but what can you do?
FINN: It's an instinct, a feeling... the Force brought us together.
"That's not how the Force works!" It's nice to see Finn hasn't learnt a thing.
Poe seems to be giving a speech here (he's at mid-right, wearing white/beige). I see pilots in the audience, so this is clearly a Resistance operation. But what's the ship he's standing under? Those aren't the Falcon's legs.
Speaking of spaceships:
This must be an X-Wing; I didn't realise that in the redesign the top s-foil actually sits behind the front of the lower one. You can't see a split between the wings.
SPEAKING OF SPACESHIPS:
Spaceships absurdly close to things count: 1
It actually pushes some of the trees out of the way. That's not how you treat a Blockade Runner!
We get some shots of Rey and Kylo gearing up to fight on Scary Choppy Ocean Planet, in front of the Death Star wreckage. Narration Rey complains that nobody understands her, Kylo says he does; that sounds like them from the last film, yep.
Somewhere, a million Celine Deons cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. Spaceberg!
Right, I know this one... that's Jon Snow's chair, right? Or something like that?
What it's not is either Palpatine's DS2 throne or Snoke's seat. This is something new. Though the narration certainly thinks it's Palpy's.
Spaceships absurdly close to things count: 2
I'm pretty sure an ISD doesn't have the structural integrity for--
Spaceships absurdly close to things count: +++ERROR ERROR DIVIDE BY CUCUMBER+++
a) Those are going to crash into each other if even one of them wriggles slightly.
b) I guess they managed to find some more resistance fighters.
c) Internet rumour suggests that's the Ghost (from Rebels) to the Falcon's right.
d) Round sensor dish, how we've missed you.
e) ASJUJKHKAA ARE YOU SEEING THIS???
Anyway: shots of people together, Rey and Kylo fighting, something goes boom (it looks like there might be Star Destroyer running lights in the foreground, which suggests this is something very big going boom), someone flies what looks like a modified Crait skimmer over the water on Scary Ocean World, and then:
POE: What, uh... what are you doing there, Threepio?
C3PO: Taking one last look, sir... at my friends.
I don't want the tin robot to make me cry!
THIS CHRISTMAS
Lots of shooting in an Imperial/First Order corridor, General Leia looking resplendant as always, BB8 launching powder fireworks or something, Lando in the Falcon, and:
Yessss, Y-Wing!
THE SAGA WILL END
(Brief shot of the Resistance riding... boar-horses.)
THE STORY LIVES FOREVER
Dangit Disney. Stop with the feels.
Now that is Palpatine's throne room on the second Death Star. I see Kylo doesn't have his lightsaber out.
We get a very dramatic shot of Rey and Kylo lightsabering Kylo's Vader shrine into pieces, and then, um:
... I don't think that's a safe activity, gang. Star Destroyers are not for walking on.
A B-Wing swoops past during this shot. We're going full Alphabet Soup!
Palpy's laugh plays over this, and that certainly looks like his hood at left. Could the pipework be some kind of life-support system?
Finally, over Rey with her lightsaber at the ready:
LUKE: The Force will be with you. LEIA: Always.
Dangit Disney.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
Two months to go.

I've been especially bad at lurking over the last few years but I saw hS's post on livejournal... The Board is where I really got into online fandom for the first time *counts* 15 or so years ago. For all its clunkiness and ypur invasions, I'll miss it, and the friends I've made over the years (too many of them sadly no longer around, at least digitally).
Elcalion, nostalgic
If the one in a million chance occurs, then you get filming and explosions. What's not to love?
Hi! Welcome a'Board. Has anyone poked the newbie yet? Looks like not!
[First poke]

I recognised your name! Aurora's right, it's been a long time, hasn't it? Over a decade - honestly I'm surprised YourWebApps kept sending you those emails all this time. Wow. Welcome back!
(If you want to get all nostalgic about what we did Back In The Day, my subject-line archives include chunks of the period you were here. 2005-2007, looks like.)

If events with .01 chance are pretty rare, one in a million is a much bigger chance than it should be.
Welcome back! Have a sentient cookie!
