I had a brilliant idea for a novel just this afternoon...

...so, in 1945, the Nazis win WWII...wait, don't turn away. This isn't quite that cliché, and I'm not quite finished yet...

...however, Hitler dies along with most of the radicalised Nazis in a suicide attack by the surviving Allied forces. Thus, the more logical Nazis (Speers, and a few others) take over. They decide that people will be more opposed to Nazi rule if they actually know the Nazis are in charge. So, they cover up all the evidence, and make it appear like they lost the war.

Fast forward to 2045, and the world is secretly controlled by the Nazis, who are hiding behind the facade of many of the world governments. What happens when the world finds out that they've been duped for 100 years?

The message of the Sons as you see them. Yes, they have the "knowledge is power" thing going on kind of, and yes, between the arrogance and lack of knowledge and so many other things, the Sons really really failed.

But dammit, they tried, earnestly tried to be better, and it seems most of them kept trying the very last. It's sad, unfortunate, and has caused so many ills and horrors, but there is something really admirable about that.

The mixture of optimism and cynicism in there is great. Even if they are going straight to hell.

I like Magnus (especially the Text-to-Speech version), and yet I blame him for almost everything that happens to his legion. {= ) He may be The Nice One, but he's still as flawed as everything else in 40k. The theme of the Thousand Sons as I read them isn't "knowledge is power," as they might like to think; it's not even "... and power corrupts." It's "the road to Hell is paved with good intentions." We see it clearly with Magnus, and then Ahzek Ahriman takes up where he leaves off, with bells on. But That's A Story For Another Time.

I want to know how "Spires" gets from the PPC to an Imperial college to then, I assume, in an ironic twist of fate, the PPC's Musée des Univers Perdus. Derik will be very confused. *g*

I still love that poem, and the story frames it perfectly.

I don't think I'd actually read through to the end before (for those following along at home, I beta'd the first 10 stanzas before my attention wandered too far); I like it. It's interesting that you haven't cast Magnus in too good a light - he's arrogant, he sells his legion's souls, &c &c. Given his status as The Nice One, I'm impressed you avoided the temptation.

The college holding the various versions of the poem, however, is still going to be purged by the Inquisition. There's such a thing as too heretical (and it is: any heretical).

It's called 'Code Geass: Awesome of the Rebellion', and it is most definitely a trollfic. It starts out with a new student "cuming" to school, who turns out to be one of the most ABSURD Stus I have ever seen. He's called 'Awesome', and is somehow better than Lelouch in every way. Y'know how Lelouch has all these victories and all these failures? Awesome one-ups them all, and never makes any of the same pitfalls. He gets all (and I mean ALL) the girls...Y'know, I'll leave all that for a reader. The fic devolves over time into a pseudo-insane situation, with a communist super-mutant uprising, the appearance of the mechas from Pacific Rim, Rasputin (yes, that one) as a Geass-Giver, people randomly turning into tanks...you have to read this to believe it.

Currently dropping dead multiple times in a row due to lag, but I'm slowly and painstakingly building myself a tower on a clifftop.

Cause it's a waste of thread to have just one.

I recommend this game as well. That is, unless you're trying to avoid getting sucked into a "well, let me just finish [building this thing, conquering this planet, ...]" loop.

Compared to other Paradox games, I'd say Stellaris is a lot more forgiving. You've got a whole chunk of the early game to explore the galaxy and maybe get to know the neighbors (well, if you want to just start killing them and taking their stuff, you can, but you don't have to), giving you a lot of time to get familiar with the game and your empire to ease you in to things. (On the other hand, you've got games like EU4, where you basically need to get into a war with someone nearby reasonably soon, in my experience).

If you're looking to sink more money into this thing once you've gotten hooked, I'd recommend the Utopia DLC.

Jeez, it's been a while. Updates took forever, and I barely remember how this works on PC.

But, I am now spending my first night in game, in the rain, in a leaky shelter on top of a small hill with spruce trees on it. A promising start!

"Okay, whose fault is this?!"

Leo stood in the middle of the RC, looking over the garish rainbow-painted walls with an expression of disgust.

Skater checked the bathroom. "Oh, heck! They turned the bathroom urple and some other colors that don't exist!"

"They WHAT?!?!" Leo was so surprised and angry that he used two exclamation marks and two question marks to end the same sentence.

"Well, at least they didn't get to our bedrooms." Skater said, trying to look on the bright side and calm Leo down.

It was a big mistake. "Yeah, but you know what they DID get to?" Leo angrily replied, turning on Skater. "EVERYTHING ELSE."

Suddenly, Skater stopped dead as the duo heard a loud CLANG! from Leo's treasure closet. "What's in there?" Skater asked, trying to keep his fear from showing.

"Whatever it is, it's cruisin' for a bruisin'! No one goes into my hoard without permission!" Leo looked, if that was at all possible, even angrier at this new intrusion. He stormed over to the closet door and opened it.

Inside, the Ultimate Sword Skater had commented on earlier lay on the ground instead of leaning against the wall, but no one was in sight. Leo could feel their presence, though. He started looking through the closet, and it was not long before he found the intruder. He was hiding behind some weapons that were leaning against the wall, his white body composed of cubes and rectangular prisms trembling in fear, with a black collar that had the DMS flash patch, a paintbrush in his mouth that still bore the traces of multicolored paint, and eyes that were silently pleading with Leo to spare his life.

Leo was not amused. He grabbed the Minecraft wolf by the collar and admonished him. "Now listen here, you dog. You think you can be all funny and paint our RC? You think you can humiliate me? Well, here. Take what's coming to you." Leo prepared to use his Gemstone Magic on him.

"NO! Leo, don't hurt him!" Skater, who was watching the scene, rushed to Leo and held up his hands. "There's no need to FIGHT! We can settle this without anyone needing to be thrashed. Please, Leo, put him down!"

"Skater, I know you're a softie and don't want to hurt people, but he deserves it." Still, he turned back to the wolf. "What is your name?"

"I-it's Larry, Leo." Larry said, trembling in fear.

"Please, Leo, don't hurt him!" Skater pleaded. "Please, Leo..."

Leo sighed. Skater was making him feel bad. "Well, Larry, since you made this mess, why don't you clean it up?" Leo said. "Unless, of course, you want to get hurt."

Skater relaxed as he saw that Leo was intending to be reasonable. "Yeah, that sounds fair. Could you please start with the bathroom? There's a nasty shade of urple in there and it's kind of hard to look at." Addressing Leo, he said, "And thank you for not hurting him."

Leo dropped Larry on the floor and turned to Skater. "Skater, you can't be a pushover or a softie like that. Please don't do it again."

"-necessary when dealing with Sues."Skater interjected, placing emphasis on the last four words. "There's no need for us to attack each other."

Larry headed to the bathroom, where he quickly found a mop and started doing his best to clean up his mess.

I've sunk 800 odd hours into it.

In terms of an actor for Faust, the only one I can think of at the moment is John Simm, but I admit that I'm not as familiar with British actor as I'd like....

I'm not sure I have an actor I'd pick for Faust at the moment, actually. It's difficult to act impish without coming across as completely irredeemable, which (hopefully) describes Faust. If anyone has any suggestions for slim, blond British actors with a certain catlike, mischievous quality, though, I'm all ears. :P

I'm glad you enjoyed the read, though! And particularly glad to hear others are enjoying the chemistry specifically, since it's the thing I personally found most appealing about the idea of the agent pair. Bouncing demons off of angels is deeply amusing to me—at least if you throw them hard enough.
