I'm happy there will be consequences in-story, but that... kinda didn't feel like an Harry thing to me. Granted, that is a very Weasley Twins thing and they were involved, but I still have the feeling Harry would've considered it as going too far.
Then again, this is a an "early" and alternate Harry who might simply not have realized the implications. And I haven't touched anything HP related in years so I might be misremembering the canon one too...
As for the rest, it countinues being intriguing!

Not gonna lie, Nesh has been the victim of a lot of my idea bouncing when it came to Buddy's transformation over Discord. XD She was absolutely vital in that process and I am not surprised at all that some aspects of her work made it into mine. Those morphological fields are in dire need of stabilising. Can't have unstabilised morphological fields!
Buddy would love some shinies, pls. He would keep them in a pile and just... look at them. They're so good. And so shiny. I think he would maintain human form, but he would also be more inclined to pick through his shinies with his teeth and stay really really close to his pile, and definitely keep it in an order that only seems to make sense to him. Like... part crow, part dragon and also part bower bird.
David Attenborough might come by his pile and disturb something on purpose, just so there will be shots of a deeply affronted Buddy putting it back in order.Thank you for reading, glad you enjoyed!

Myrtle, a red herring? Hmmm... could I interest you in some salmon salmon?
As for your suspect lineup... I am definitely picturing you jotting down notes in a little notebook like it's a game of Cluedo and I hope you don't disabuse me of that notion! Granted, it's just one victim so far, so there's more clues to come.
Luna is definitely another more moderate wizarding culture-based voice. She has a pretty unique take on the world both in canon and in here. And she would fit right in at HQ!
Consequences are indeed coming... next chapter, in fact! Thanks for reading!

Another year, another boardiversary...but it's been a *decade* now. by

It's a bit different to what I vaguely remember I thought it might be ~ten years ago in idle daydreams (as one does). I'm not especially active here (you may have noticed :P), I haven't finished all the stories I'd hoped to...I don't really know what to think. I don't really know what to say.
I do hope to put up the vast majority of the stories (almost entirely interludes) that I started over the years (most from about 2013-2018). I have a framing device to deal with the fact that many are unfinished. I think (hope) it will be fun for people to read, and I would like to know I got all those drafts shared for the sake of my younger self who really wanted to share them and so I can close that chapter of my writing life. I continue to write, and a little of it (mostly cowritten stuff, primarily Jacques/Jenni) is currently slated to still be PPC (interludes, with two pre-decided and -started exceptions), but at this point I'm not going to finish the vast majority of those earlier drafts - so why not share them? The primary issue is just time+energy to prepare these and put them up; it's a bit of a big project, and I work full-time these days. A few are already ready to go, though; maybe I'll even put them up in this thread...? I'll have to see what's in that folder.
At any rate: decade!boardiversary is apparently here. Please help yourself to a '10'-shaped treat (there's a variety), and I hope you'll enjoy younger!DawnFire/Zingenmir's wealth of ideas when I finally start putting them up!

Maybe it's just me kinda relaxing on fic opinions over the years, but if it's done well it's done well, non-canon premise or not. (Heck, one of my favorite fics out there is Harry is a Dragon, and That's Okay, and that fic stretches canon quite a bit. Very solid work, if a rather long.) I actually like the writing style choice in this one, and to be honest... I'm not really seeing what makes this character particularly Sueish, especially with how bad they can get out there. Had a quick skim and she seems to just be chilling, and even if I missed something she could probably be a lot worse. I agree with Lin - it just doesn't feel very much like mission material.

I have only read the first two chapters, but it's already looking iffy. Ramandu falls in love with a sea serpent named Myanweth. I don't think Narnian sea serpents are sentient like that, and why would one fall in love with a Star? I will admit that I don't know the explanation of the origins of Ramandu's daughter, but this seems implausible. Also, this fic seems to be turning her into a Sue.

True confession: at one point I definitely thought about bringing the mini back later in the mission, since the misspelling pops up in the summary/dossier/prologue at the start of every frickin' chapter. But... I forgot what I wanted to do with him, and by that time I'd decided to avoid the chapter starts. >.> So the main reason that scene stayed in is that I knew you'd get a kick out of it. {= ) If the Minitiative is still recruiting, he's all yours!
> Jessica Rabbit
I knoooow! >.< I didn't highlight it, but Feline's "plump pink lips" contribute to the image, too. But also make me think of a sex doll. Blech.
> something she doesn’t often give him the opportunity to do
Ah, thank you for noticing that! <3
> Tony Stark
Haha, I'm sorry this nonsense made you write a minific? But yes, I definitely like your version better. And good on you for remembering Pepper exists!
> taunt waste
Yay, I'm glad that plays well. I thought about having them transport it to HQ, maybe down in the endless heap that Shift Twentieth got lost in, IIRC. But I decided that was just too cruel.
> song
Yeeeeeessssss! This reaction is beautiful and amazing, and I'm very relieved the filk (as opposed to original work) didn't turn out to be a disappointment in the end!
I had never sat down and listened to "Down Under," either. It's weird, weird song. It's not something I'd normally listen to by choice, and it's definitely not to Derik's taste. It was just one of those things that, once the idea got into my head, it wouldn't go away, so I had to do it. I figure that was the downside to that superpower: he could mesmerize people with song, but only using silly pop music tunes. And hey, that way he really wouldn't be tempted to overuse it, too! {X D
Not that it needs an explanation, I know, since it's not likely to come up again. You might say it was a... one-hit wonder.

Another, missing student from the past? Could that be Myrtle again? She is Muggleborn. And if she’s still considered a missing person, that would mean she didn’t even come back as a ghost this time . . . Man, Myrtle can’t catch a break in any timeline, it seems! I have to say, Lily, I can’t make heads or tails of the mystery this year. (Not that I saw the finale of Chamber of Secrets coming, either.) Actually, it doesn’t feel to me like Myrtle/the other victim is even related, since she went missing, rather than having her hair and magic removed. I’m calling red herring on that one! My brain wants to blame Lockhart, but I feel like that’s too easy, and he was only a secondary antagonist in canon anyway. (He again appears as a legit authority figure in this chapter, so he feels even less threatening than he did in canon.) Dobby said Draco is up to something this year, but I can’t imagine it would involve attacking pureblood witches, especially not one of his oldest friends, as Hermione pointed out. Luna mentioning Astoria being ill piqued my curiosity a bit, but with her aunt being so gung ho about Pureblood culture, I can’t imagine she would attack a pureblood either. The only real clue I can see is that Pansy was subverting cultural norms by wanting to play Quidditch . . . so someone who’s overly invested in maintaining pureblood standards wanted to punish her? OR! Oh my gosh, I forgot . . . Pansy is the one who called out Lockhart’s plagiarism in his class . . . maybe he wanted to silence her? Except I assume there are going to be further victims throughout the year, and I don’t think even Lockhart would be dumb enough to make an accident happen to everyone who challenges the details of his books . . . Hm. You’ve got me stumped, Lily!
Yeah, I have to agree with Luna. Draco is a mean boy, but I feel like the effigy rather pushed the boundaries of what’s appropriate. If only Harry understood the workings of the Ironic Overpower, he would have realized Draco or someone else would end up seeing the effigy. (Dang, Luna would make a great PPC agent, wouldn’t she?) I’m sure Harry and friends will see repercussions over this, and honestly, they should. At the same time, though, I’m glad Harry kept Hermione unaware of what happened with Draco, so she could enjoy her birthday.

Ha ha ha ha ha, yes! The mini-Furys do take things seriously, don’t they? X D I’m half surprised S.H.E.I.L.D didn’t find a way to break back into the Word World to finish the mission! Also, I love that the disguise generator represented Derik’s eye situation by emulating the real Fury!
Oh noooo, Dr. Feline does indeed sound like she’s Jessica Rabbit-shaped . . . I actually find it hard to look at Jessica because my brain insists on imagining what her spine and organs are doing, so having to picture Feline throughout this mission was rather unwelcome. Plus, at least Jessica stays clothed all throughout her movie . . .
I like the scene with the “helicraft.” Gall got so excited about visiting the MCU, I’m glad she also had to experience one of its negative aspects: the noisy, military-grade technology! It’s pretty wild the thing annihilated the sound barrier twice over like that. We’re so used to spatial and temporal distortions in Tolkien’s works, but it reaches a whole other level when the characters have access to aircraft technology! It also led to that sweet scene of Derik being supportive and caring towards Gall, something she doesn’t often give him the opportunity to do.
“Kitty wanna play a game with tony” Aaah. Aaaaaaaaaaah. Like, I hate Stark, but this just isn’t how he talks; even when he’s being a lech, he at least sounds smoother than this. The worst part is, the actual prank does sound like the sort of thing he would do. I can even picture the script writers leading into it with a fake-out innuendo, just . . . not with this phrasing, this psychologically damaging phrasing. In fact . . . I’m so sorry, but I have to do this now:
Tony stared into the bottom of the liquor glass. “Hm. A cat . . . shapeshifter.” He slid the glass around the bar in a circle, stirring the contents. “And none of my other soon-to-be-tolerated house guests have arrived yet. Doctor, I wonder if you’d be interested in having a little fun?” He stepped out from behind the bar and approached the couch where Dr. Feline was lounging, somehow stretching across all three cushions despite her height.
She lolled her head back and eyed Stark warily down the bridge of her nose. “I’m rather partial to fun, Mr. Stark, but I’m not sure Mrs. Potts would approve.” She raised an eyebrow.
“Please, call me Tony,” Stark replied, turning his head to the side as though modeling his face for her. “Or Iron Man, that one still hasn’t gotten old. But no, I was thinking something significantly less mature. See, nobody else knows what your power is. I would love to find out how long it takes . . .” Now he raised an eyebrow.
“. . . That the housecat in the room is part of the team.” Dr. Feline smiled.
Stark raised the glass in a toasting gesture. “Is kitty game?”
“Kitty is game.” And Dr. Feline began to change.
Bah, sorry, just had to work that one out of my system.
Augh! I’m also sorry you had to deal with “taunt waste,” but I think you handled it as well as anyone could. Not to brag, but the second the agents started talking about portaling the waste away, my kneejerk reaction was, “Gosh, they could just throw it into the Bog of Eternal Stench, no one would notice it there.” And behold! We’re on the same wavelength!
Okay, so . . . to understand my reaction to Derik’s song, I first need you to understand that I have never sat and listened to “Down Under.” Like, I know the song exists, I’ve heard bits of it on the radio, but I never actually sit and listen, because it is slow and boring and does not fuel me with energy, like a song should. So I get to that section of this story, see the format change, and I’m like, “Whoa, Neshomeh wrote a whole original song for this mission! That’s amazing! It looks like maybe a rap rhythm?” So then I read the first line, don’t recognize that. Then I read the second line, and I’m like, “Oh, that’s from that one famous song that I never listen to because it sucks. Isn’t that song about Australia? And Dr. Feline was living in Australia. Neshomeh is so clever! What a clever reference!” And then I get through that first big
I don’t know the words for song parts I’m going to saystanza, still recognizing none of it, but then I hit the chorus, and I’m finally like, “Oh, it’s not an original song that references the sucky Australia song, it’s a filk of the sucky Australia song.” And then the full force hits me. Derik. Is filking. In the Hulk’s face. Derik is filking the Hulk in the face. It’s so beautiful, Nesh. It’s so beautiful. And that’s the whole story of me reacting to Derik’s song. I love that the powers that both agents gave themselves factored into the mission’s success, but Derik’s scene is unquestionably the best.New word learned: “chunder,” but I could have done without it, I think . . .

- The beginning mouse bit was good
- Morphological field stabilizing ... do I detect a recent read of Nesh's back catalog here?
- The "defies all logic and common sense" bit about RC numbers is very PPC
- I feel bad for Buddy being confused by Tuesdays
- Buddy: "Will there be weapons?" ... That is so PPC Agent
- Weird that Buddy knew something about Buffy
- ... the early 2000s were not that long ago. I insist they were not. Also, darn kids, get off my
lawnforum - It's nice to see the mission pointing out good things about the fic
- Everything is too darn loud is a mood
- Personal conversations good
- I wouldn't trust Buddy with shiny things either
Peregrin: cuts into the review to give Buddy a shiny because screw the rules and also seeing what it does to his staying human-shaped - Father's feathers is a funny typo
- Ouch on timeskip
- How does Buddy know these things?
- ... Ah, character-derailing OTP. I understand the title now
- Huh. That's how Moira knows things, at least. Whoof on the sudden lust object appearance. Still doesn't explain Buddy though
- ... right, I'd forgotten his backstory
- Blank, that was harsh.
- "Welcome to humanity. There's no certainty."
- (But also Moira is having a heck of a time right now.)
- The conversation with the Sue is a really nice bit
- ... Moira, that was a understandable decision that's going to cause so much drama
- It's nice to see the point that the premise could've worked
Overall, very fun read that's also a good exploration of the PPC as an organization and does a good job of being constructive.

The first season is... almost aggressively 90's, but has its own charm. It's a very beloved show with compelling characters, where stakes feel raised with every progressive season (there are seven, and there was also a spin-off called Angel which itself got five season and is good for its own reasons). The characters also grow up during the course of the show, from high-school students to young adults with some really good arcs all around. It's a very funny show, and the reason why TV Tropes exists because of how referenced it is.
It is not perfect. I could go into detail about behind the scenes stuff, of which there was a lot and more has come out fairly recently about exactly what it was like to work with Joss Whedon, but the show also shows its age in certain other aspects. All in all though, I still would recommend it. It has some of the strongest writing I've ever seen, some of the most brutal emotional arcs, and it remains what it is throughout. It never loses sight of what it's trying to say.
It was a formative show for me and I will always love it. No dragons as far as I remember, sorry. I tried to find something to compare it to on your list of fandoms below, but I'm not really familiar with a lot of them. XD (Apart from Phantom, Discworld, Animorphs, ATLA, and the SCP Foundation. We have some overlap, just few dragons!)
Welcome to the Board by the way! It's lovely to meet you. I'm Ekwy. I suppose I count as an oldbie because I first found the PPC in the mid-2000s when I was a teenager. Then I stopped visiting for a bit (okay, a long bit). I only came back in 2021 and have been active again since.
