I love Uncle Chuckles! The second he swept into town and rattled to a stop next to the local creek, releasing a strange stench like a wolf dissolving in acid and slowly turning that creek a deep gooey brown over the course of the day, I knew it was going to be a wonderful time!
Things really kicked up a notch when one of those uncles just started weeping during juggling and wouldn't stop - - by the first stone tossed by one of the local kids I was totally sold!

Unrelated to this, and I might've said it already on Discord, but this is a bloody fantastic kinda short story written in a real weird medium. You've got a real way, Scape, with filth and decrepitness. It feels wretched in the best kinda way, bloody beauty.

I hope Uncle Chuckles comes again soon! But maybe after our creek has gotten a little better and the stench and embedded tear stains have worn away a little.

We always need a good henchman or two. Just be sure to put on a hat before you step into the story.

Sorry for the Capslock O'Rage, but we are getting so b***y tired of you not being able to let go of your hatred for this show.
And guess what - one or two badly written female characters in genre fiction doesn't mean that all female characters nowadays are written badly, and one or two well-written female characters from the past don't mean that they should be the golden standard. I love Ripley, and Sarah Connor is the (fictional) love of my life, but God help genre fiction from having characters only like these two (or three, I don't know the third lady). Take a look at all the movies, TV series, books, video games etc. that keep coming out with amazingly written female characters and reconsider your stance on "strong female characters" (itself a very flawed concept).
And please. I'm begging you on my knees with tears in my eyes. I'll offer you my firstborn if you want to, just SHUT UP ABOUT DISCOVERY.

Who repeats all the mob boss's lines while chortling at the hero. So the mob boss will say like 'yeah and you'll be sleeping with the fishes pal' and I'll lean over and say 'hehe, yeah, you'll be sleeping with the fishes. Pal. Heheh.' and I die in the first gunfight or whatever.

Alternately, dead body, you need a few of those for crime stuff.

Ellen Ripley, as played by Signourey Weaver, is a strong female character. She’s a character from a film that originally came out in the late 70’s; who manages tobe far stronger that half the supposed ‘Strong feminine icons that keep being thrown out of the room full of monkeys that is Hollywood. Ripley is a tough-as-nails XO, who embodies the concept of a female badass. She’s also maternal in her behaviour, as shown with Newt, as well as the whole ‘going back for the cat’ bit.

Sarah Connor, as played by Linda Hamilton in Terminator II: Judgement Day, is a Strong Female character. She’s a single mother who fights killer robots from the far future of 2014. Nuff said.

Kara “Starbuck” Thrace, as played by Katee Sackhoff, is a strong female character. She smokes cigars. She flies starfighters. She gambles. She drinks. She’s also a deeply feminine character, and not just a badass without rhyme or reason.

Michael Burnham, as played by Sonnequa Martin Green, is NOT a strong female character. Sure, she’s a black female lead. That’s where everything good comes to a dead stop. She’s good at snything she does; is always right as justified by the plot of the story; can frack up (but not recieve any lasting consequences or proportional retribution). All this, and she’s more wooden than Kirk, with the personality of soggy cardboard.

Unfortunately, the last example holds true for so many of today’s “female characters”. Those 2016 Ghostbusters were all badly done comedy, and no charm or chemistry. It wasn’t the actresses’ fault: they were given a bad script, written by supposed proffessional writers.

• A genderfluid private detective who changes presentation depending on which suspect they're talking to. (Yours truly, Mirage Fontane)
  - A mobster involved in the numbers racket who is secretly the detective's trusted contact within the shady organization. (SunAndMoon)
  - Cute, talkative secretary who can and WILL fight you. (Scapegrace)
  - Police detective trying to crack a hard case; he's sensitive and squeamish, but manages to pull through when he's really needed. Also has a tough, grizzled partner whose butt he ends up saving in the big finale. (Neo Skater)
  - Information broker with connections to every shady operation in town, whom both the detective and the mobsters go to for information. (S.M.F., if they agree to the role)

How about being a person with connections to pretty much every shady operation on the city, who the detective and the bad guys go to for information? A sort of information broker, if you will.

Unless 'Dispatch' is an option.

SkarmorySilver's submission was very good, as can be counted on. The ending where the wedding card was shown got a laugh out of me, something writing rarely does.

Thoth's submission was rather interesting. I really liked the point of view present in the story and the worldbuilding was pretty interesting. It was also a nice gag.

Valon and Kala's finale by Voyd was rather heartwarming, even though I haven't read any of their missions. Maybe that's something for me to do.

What if Jay and Acacia possess superfast writing powers?

That idea for a partner somehow matches up pretty nicely with some ideas I've been bouncing around for Leo, who if all goes well will be the partner to my self-insert in PPC canon. So it's pretty great!

And yes, I'll take any opportunity to make my heart my greatest weapon.

You're right - no one said this will be a traditional noir. After all, those don't tend to have gendefluid private eyes. :P And if you're willing to take a tough, grizzled partner whose butt you end up saving in the finale, even better.

I could be the real sensitive and squeamish guy who nonetheless pulls through when he's most needed.
