This is a combination of prompt fills spruced up a little (or a lot) for wiki archiving as interludes, and a little new stuff, hence putting up six together. They do also cover a range of genres, so to speak, so hopefully there's something for every reading mood (okay, except fluff; somehow I don't have a super-fluffy piece ready to go)! My hope is that y'all get some amusement and/or entertainment out of at least some of these. I'll note the genres by the titles, for fun and as a guide if anyone wants to read based on that.
Here we go:
--
Caution: Humans May Be Fragile (historical interlude, hurt/comfort)
Summary: Seventeen-year-old DOGA agent Dawn McKenna is injured in a new way while on a joint mission with her partner and her partner’s former partner. Set June 2010. Originally published May 29, 2018.
--
Bigger on the Inside - Jacques Reacts (mildly NSFW, mostly for innuendo and some language) (utter silliness prompted by Neshomeh, humor)
Summary: Jacques Bonnefoy reacts (in MST format) to a song about Doctor Who.
--
Continuity: Keys (Continuity Council interlude, humor/adventure) (unfinished, but the longest piece of the six)
Summary: The Continuity Council gets caught up in an...interesting situation after the Reader accepts a simple mission from the Doctor. Set who knows when, probably 2019 or up to a couple years earlier. Originally written and posted on the Board July-August 2019, by (in order of joining) Zingenmir, Huinesoron, and Iximaz.
--
Though Every Thread is Torn (historical interlude, horror. No, really. I do write horror once in a while!) T-rated.
Summary: Jacques Bonnefoy finally goes on a long-anticipated date. It goes differently than expected. Set January 30, 2016. Originally published May 13, 2018. Very minor spoilers for Torchwood season 2 and Supernatural seasons 4-5. Warnings at the end of the doc if wanted.
--
Gerry On the Wing (possibly extracanonical interlude, adventure)
Summary: In another world, Nurse Gerry must look within to save a child. Semi-canonical. Originally published October 30, 2019. (See ending a/n for details on who Gerry is--this is his only written appearance so far.)
--
The Wandering Baron (Plort interlude covering three years, reflective)
Summary: Eshakhar, now a baron, builds a castle and rearranges her life.
--
Hope you've enjoyed! I'm open to comments and concrit, as always, though for the most part I don't really plan on doing extensive editing for any of these. The 'Jacques Reacts' piece is unlikely to be edited at all, past typos and so on; I'm not even sure it's going on the wiki.
I do hope to add more stories to this thread eventually; I'd say 'stay tuned!' but I don't expect them to be ready too quickly, so it's more like 'check back in a week or so, or possibly expect a new thread when this reaches the second page'.
Wishing you all the best,
~Z
You did a good job with imagery and with describing emotions in the Gerry piece. The opening lines seemed ot set that up pretty well.
I did not predict the twist on Every Thread is Torn.
Keys was interesting, and I could overall fallow it and enjoy the ride despite not being too up to date on Dr. Who.
Humans May Be Fragile was a nice bit of character interaction.
I read the rest of the stuff, too.
I don't really have detailed comments, but I figured I'd at least jump in with an "I read the things and I approve"
I appreciate your taking the time to share some thoughts. I'm glad the pieces worked. :)

I think I actually read most of the prompt pieces before, with the exception of the Jacques one, oddly enough. That one is really good. It helps that I have a vested interest in the guy, but the imagery is fantastic and the dream-like quality comes through very well and increasingly creepy as it goes on. And then he just gets up and gets back to work, argh, are you even going to talk about this later??
Sorry, I think Jenni hijacked the keyboard for a second there. ^_~
I don't remember if I commented on the Dawn one or the Gerry one before, but I enjoyed them both.
Having never broken a bone or experienced any serious pain myself (nothing that couldn't be treated with extra-strength ibuprofen, heat or cold, and rest), I can only faintly imagine what Dawn must've been going through, but I'm glad she had good friends with her. Seeing Abaddon realize he was being a jerk and actively do better was really nice. T'Zar's brand of logic, "I know this helps so I'll do it even if it makes no sense to me," is also really nice.
I look forward to getting to know Gerry better and seeing if he's really a princess-rescuing shape-shifting dragon-guy. ^_^
I think I followed "Keys" as it was being written, too. ConCoun stuff is always fun. I admire the Notary's surface composure in the face of everything being ridiculous and absolutely no one giving her a break, really. And, I couldn't help but pick up on this line of hers: "I understand the 2020s were a troubled time on Earth," she said. "This seems about right for human incompetence." Yeah, we're off to a great start on this decade so far, aren't we? >.>
And, well, you know I like the song reaction. ^_~
~Neshomeh
And I'm glad you think it's good! It got the most tweaking of the lot (not that that's saying much, but over the past few months here and there there were a few details that got tweaked and tweaked and tweaked), so I'm glad it turned out well and that the imagery/tone/etc came through/worked. And ha, yeah, uh...I have no idea if he's going to talk about it (sorry, Jenni!) He does have Mirrad, so you never know; he also has Jenni, and I've set this in 2016 in the end, so...there's at least a chance he'll talk about it? More likely he won't say too much, but will reach out for comfort and possibly talk to Mirrad (or Jenni, or someone else, depending on what he wants to say) about Ianto for a bit. So it's not all bad :P
I know you've read the Gerry one (comes of saying 'hey, I have a FicPsych character now and this is the only piece written for him so far'), but can't really remember what you said about it, if anything much. Glad you enjoyed the two, though.
To be perfectly honest, that story came about partially because I've never broken a bone myself (but Dawn is in far more situations where she might, so it would make sense for it to happen to her)! I had both descriptions and different types of painful experiences to draw on, though, so it worked out (though now I'd be very interested to hear what someone who has broken a bone thinks of it!) Abaddon is kind of a sweetheart underneath the bits of awkwardness and playacting and--well, he's a reasonably good guy on the whole, anyway. And I love playing around with T'Zar, a full Vulcan (as opposed to Spock and his struggles with his human side) surrounded by non-Vulcans, and how she adapts the longer she's in HQ. Same with her friendship and former partnership with Dawn (and Abaddon, but Dawn's has had more development). I think she winds up using that bit of logic more and more as the years go by; it's not exactly changing who she is, just adapting a little to ease the HQ experience, which is only logical, after all ;) It's not a matter of discomfort, of course; just a matter of not having to deal with emotional beings' reactions to what they might see as a lack of consideration, which would likely cause problems later down the line...
That's the line, anyway :) Underneath that, well, Vulcans have pretty strong emotions; if loosening the control over them ever so slightly helps the illogical beings with whom she's connected and whom she loves fiercely behind the control...well. It's not traditionally logical, but on the whole, it makes a lot of sense.
...whoops, I tangented.
At this point, I get the feeling Gerry's keeping the dragon heritage. I like it a lot, as well as the idea of actually finally having a character from an original continuum (or at least not from a canon and not from World One), which was actually a very early plan that took multiple forms and has yet to actually make it into posting. Most of the ideas have been dropped, at least when it comes to incorporating them into the PPC. At any rate, I think he'll probably keep the dragony bits, even if they don't come out to play too often.
I should probably find him a surname at some point, though this is the PPC. He could get by without one.
Oh my gosh. You know, every bit of that was written in 2019? /suspicious look/ Who wrote that? What did you know? Tell usss.
Given the song reaction is your fault, it's a good thing you like it :P I'm not sure I can blame you if I wind up throwing him at some Chameleon Circuit songs, though. (Actually, the Reader+"Gallifreyan History"...heck, a group of Time Lords+half their songs...this could be an interesting expansion of the Continuity Council.)

Caution: Humans May Be Fragile
Well done with the emotions in this piece. The dynamic between Dawn feeling hurt by Abaddon’s laughter but still needing to lean into him for support, and Abaddon feeling obligated to give it even while knowing Dawn is upset with him at the moment, feels like something that would be difficult to convey—but you’ve done it here, quite handily. Same with T’Zar being comforting towards Dawn despite not entirely understanding human comfort.
Continuity: Keys
I was following along with this as it was originally posted. I’m always a sucker for these sorts of “crossover events,” even without knowing any of the Doctor Who stuff going on. The character interactions are quite fun to read, especially with the Council’s obligation not to get overly involved in canon, and the Notary and Morgan having histories with the Doctor to make things awkward.
I would love to see the conclusion to this adventure, if the time is ever available . . . please?
Though Every Thread is Torn
Wooow, this was good. Again, I don’t know the Who universe well, but I do know about Harkness’s immortality (and therefore Jacques’s). So I guessed pretty early on that Jacques was dead, but I wasn’t sure about Ianto, like maybe the whole thing was a hallucination Jacques tends to experience when he dies and un-dies, or if Ianto is dead in canon and came to visit. What I definitely didn’t guess was that Jacques had died in a world with a canon afterlife, and was experiencing it while waiting for his body to undo the damage. Wow. That came as a real gut punch after all the suspense you set up leading up there. Also, did I imagine it, or did fake!Ianto touch and freeze Jacques everywhere he had been injured? Amazing detail if so; you really have talent for this sort of story!
Gerry on the Wing
This is definitely intriguing. I like the idea of a fantasy-genre Hulk sort of character, transforming into a dragon under anger. But I also like that his anger is something he feels on behalf of others, and not just senseless, violent rage. I wonder, if he becomes too calm as he’s flying, does the transformation reverse itself? I do hope to see more of Gerry in the future.
I didn’t really have any comments on “Bigger on the Inside” or “The Wandering Baron.” Sorry! I am sad to see yet another part of Desdendelle’s legacy get retired, though. : (
—doctorlit, reading, reviewing, and getting chores done all in one step
In order (mostly):
-Glad that went over well! I think you may have had nice things to say about this one ("Caution") the first time it went up (as a prompt fill), so it's nice to see it still reads well two years later :)
-I would love to see more of "Keys". I'm not sure I'm up for writing more, at least currently, but I'm hopeful it'll get added to by someone eventually. Anyone with a Time Lord agent (preferably an involved one, for sense-making) is welcome to write more. In the meantime, well, reading it over made me laugh, so I thought it would be fun to bring back (and finally collect in one doc like I'd intended to; editing/formatting uniformity can still wait until it's done, though).
-"Gerry": Yeah, it's kind of a nice distinction, isn't it? :) And oh dear. I hope the transformation doesn't reverse in the air if he calms down, but...at the same time, it might make sense if it did. Maybe he got lucky and there's a safety feature there? He doesn't pull out the wings too frequently (if ever, really), so I'm not so sure that he knows too much about how they work beyond the general mechanics. What he has to deal with most frequently, at least going by the RPs that created this aspect of him, is his body (concentrated on his hands) heating up a lot if he's steamed simmering angry enough. He's usually a pretty chill guy outside of the whole...dragon thing and pent up anger and frustration. The green tea helps, or at least he thinks it does. I'm hoping to write more of him at some point, for sure :)
-Fair enough! One was a bit of silliness, and the other is a bit more of a record/summary than a proper story. This is the last of the retirement pieces, I think, if that helps at all; I actually started it in 2017, but...it just didn't get finished for a while. Things happened. Finally, I realized how to wrap it up, and both translate and put in a few other changes; waiting a couple years may have helped it a little, honestly? At any rate: it's done now, and out, and apart from wiki editing, that's that. Baron Than and Agents Des and the Librarian are now officially retired, as requested. I expect they're all doing reasonably well :)
-And the best for last: aaah, I'm so happy about your reaction to "Torn"! Ianto is, technically, dead in canon (though it happened after Jacques was recruited), but while there is fic along those lines (with Jack, obviously), I haven't touched it writing-wise and don't really plan to, especially since the Whoniverse doesn't tend to really...have afterlifes. Jack certainly never describes seeing anyone, either, so his case probably isn't different.
I'm glad it had emotional impact :D And yes! Yes, very much so! The freezing covers every injury he later heals from, with more intense cold for the worst ones and less intense cold for the minor ones. I think the idea may have been taken very vaguely from the occasional notion of hell being cold instead of hot (...actually, I think that might be from Supernatural, or at least used in it?) I'm glad it worked and that you spotted it (hopefully it isn't too subtle! Hrm) and thank you so much! Seriously, this was great to see first thing in the morning.
~Z
I laughed at the song commentary piece, for sure! (I was mostly just pleased to see that song again - it's been ages!)
Looking forward to seeing what's next~
I'm glad you were amused :) The song isn't one I'd seen before, but it showed up for writing reasons and then Neshomeh...mentioned something about how Jacques reacting to it would be funny? I don't actually remember exactly how this happened, just that she said something like that and once I had the lyrics I decided to give it a go.
Same :) Hopefully it'll be within a month, though who the heck knows, really :) I mean, if you look at my track record...most of these were written in 2018 >.>
Still, hope springs eternal, no? :)
