Now it went through all the trouble of signing up and finding the confirmation email after I unknowingly put it in the trashcan. i’m just hoping I can change my username so I won’t have to change it manually every time I post.

If anyone knows anything about Steven Universe, please do help me understand this mess. I seriously do not understand what's going on.

Assuming you meant the former, which is my guess, welcome! I do hope you can choose a name less confusing than "Me" for the Board. Given that your email appears to be of one "Em McLaughlin", perhaps that?

Anyway, the Board is our main community space and interaction here is the main thing we do around here. You don't need to have an account to edit the wiki, but you do need to have a good reason for your edits. If you want to familiarize yourself with the basics, check out the Original Series and be sure to read the Constitution. Please do make it clear who you are cross-platform, however!

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "being an alt," but one of our rules is to stick to one username across PPC spaces as much as possible. That's so we know who we're talking to, and "Me" does not help. Please abide by our rules. Thank you.

Yes, I also thought it would be funny to have Draco try to get Harry's wand -cough- at the start of their duel. It was just trying to get the two to argue rather than fire spells at each other. The whole thing was pretty chaotic, with Neville distracting everyone else and the two of them ignoring it to have their own little fight...

The unicorn horn ring is actually from a Purityworld fic where fem!Harry gets tricked into getting engaged to Zacharias Smith because of his family's slut-shaming virgin-detecting unicorn horn bracelet. Skeevy stuff. Perfect for a purity ring.

And yes, it really is sad that they only really had one year of being properly friends! Such is the tumultuousness of trying to befriend people whose families are also trying to pull them back over the ideological lines. And Draco is still in the process of deconstructing his culture, so we'll see how far he goes in "realizing the harm inherent in maintaining the status quo"!

Umbridge. Yes. She's horrible. She thinks she's providing a "balanced" view of things but when one side wants rights and the other side wants witches to be subservient and Muggleborns to assimilate or be ostracised, well... it's not really that balanced in the end, is it?

Especially since the text includes snark and/or complaints in quite a few missions already. Sounds fun with an origin story to match.

Though I feel sorry for the poor thing already. If we were to consider it personnel, it may very well become the most exploded employee in the whole PPC simply by being dragged through portals.

The intrigue ramps up...

Like, a Portal Generator has absolutely no way to go into missions. With, say, a Remote Activator, or a neuralyser, or a CAD, you could work that. ...Especially a CAD, given that they generate (often personalized) text, there would be a clear way for one to communicate.

Looking at the category on the wiki, I can definitely say that a sentient CAD would be the best candidate for this idea, in my opinion.

I'll also second what Nesh said, especially regarding interacting with others. It's fun!

As a writer, the purpose of agents having partners is to give them someone to talk to/argue with. Having characters with different knowledge pools and perspectives lets you convey information to the audience naturally and offer more nuance in the interpretation of the fic, and it provides opportunities for humor and a bit of tension so things don't get boring. So, ask yourself: how is this piece of equipment going to do that? Will it serve the purpose well? For how long?

Also, how did this particular piece of equipment get more sentient than the rest? Even Rule of Funny needs some kind of explanation.

Also also, just to note, it's definitely too soon to ask for Permission. We need to get to know you for a while first (and you need to get to know us!). Try to comment on other people's stories and stuff; that's one of the best ways to make friends with writers. {= )

Since you asked about this specifically, I think this chapter has the best flow yet, keeping the action going strong without getting tripped up on huge descriptions. This helps the one scene that has a heavier description, Kaito petting Tanner, stand out better as the major moment of character growth and interaction that it is. Although, one thing that maybe needed a little more description would be an indication that the airplane had taken off? Nothing was mentioned about that, so I thought Kaito and Tanner were searching for the equipment while the plane was still on the rooftop, so it was jarring for me when the plane suddenly started falling!

Oh, Naomi is actively trying to escape from the narrative? We’ll see how successful she is!

I really like the scene where the ticket lady javelins the ladder and gets Tanner onto the plane! It feels exactly like the kind of unlikely throwaway gag the writers of The Simpsons would use to force the plot along, or resolve a problem quickly. It fits in with canon very well! I can picture in my mind, if this were an actual episode, how the camera would move from her getting hit on the head, over to her desk covered in photos and plaques of her Olympian career, then back to her hoisting the ladder and heaving it . . . sorry, went off on a mind’s eye tangent, there!

Hah, Draco going straight for an Uno Reverse at the start of the duel! I mean, I know it’s not the literal Expelliarmus that Harry is famous for, but it’s still funny for someone to target Harry’s wand instead of him for once . . .

A purity ring made from unicorn horn. Lily, you are a genius! And what puritan standards the purity ring has, indeed! “Based on textual evidence, this teenage boy has touched himself exactly once? Uh, REJECTED! LOSER!” Ring aside, Draco . . . I don’t know, he just needs to commit, man! I get the point you make in this chapter that Draco views some elements of “the Avalon religion” as family traditions, but like . . . how many times does he need to observe evidence of the Circle antagonizing others, and generally making Wizarding culture less healthy and more restricting, before he realizes the harm inherent in maintaining the status quo? That “just one year” line really hits hard. After those first three years of not getting along with Draco, and slowly drawing him out of his comfort zone and getting him to see how the world looks from other perspectives . . . They really did have just the one year as a “proper” friend group, didn’t they? And now it’s being torn apart because of politics and prejudice. Awful.

Umbridge, Umbridge, Umbridge. I’m sure you’re going to get fed up with me whining about her this year, but I just. Hate. Her, so much. An absolute black hole for empathy and pity, demanding for everyone and everything to be kept under control. I’m especially taken with how her view of Hermione changes in this chapter: how Hermione’s grades made Umbridge imagine her as an obedient student dutifully regurgitating information, but then becomes shocked, shocked! to learn that a student is daring to ask questions and think for herself. And of course she doesn’t like the Order meetings, because too much solidarity among future voters makes it harder to keep the upper echelons of society filled with the sorts of people who belong there . . . Gonna be a long school year, looong school year, looooooooong school year . . .

I was going to say that the “P.I.G.E.O.N.S.” and “Q.U.A.I.L.S.”, and the inevitable “ps and qs” joke that follows are great, but I see from the end notes they’re not original to you. Still, you fit them in seamlessly here! And I love to death, Luna looking Astoria in the eye and telling her she has to defend Draco from wrackspurts. Love it.

Was that a hint of Grubbly-Plank/Trelawney? I feel like Grubbly-Plank can do better, but eh, whatever. I can ship it.

I am just on a bit of an English radicals kick, especially the medieval and early modern ones. Perhaps the magical contingent of the Diggers and Levellers attempted to overthrow the insane blood purity laws during the Civil War... just something that was in my head. =]

The reason Smith was quoted rather than someone a bit more radical is because it's Justin Finch-Fletchley speaking, and he's, you know, had his name down for Eton. Hermione did quote David Ricardo in year 4, though!

Luna will continue puncturing blood purist balloons! She's such a delight to write. :)

Oh wow, another ingredient already! And Urato fainting from too much flower scent is hilarious—although both that and the ingredient collection would have been more fun to read in the moment, rather than have it described afterwards. Still, watching Kaguya have to haul Urato around to the point of running out of pixie dust is funny, and they had excellent timing in terms of charging the Suvians!

Hm. The vacation is specifically Urato’s and Inasuke’s idea, and Inasuke got evasive when Momoka suggested vacationing in Pixie Hollow. I take it Urato and Inasuke have a particular destination in mind, for a particular reason? Interesting . . .

One comment on the line:

I think that will read more smoothly if the two phrases are reversed, so that the dialogue tag is next to the dialogue, and the location description follows.
