I do admit, I made her with very specific powers. I did try to make sure they weren't like catch-alls. Like, she can't do any and everything she wants to.
I admit, I did pick a color of eyes and hair that are rare. But they do exist! At least I didn't pick urple. So thanks...

Heh. Trojie came online and offered. I only asked here because we've been consistently missing each other recently.

I'm willing to go over it. If you'd like, gattsuru AT gmail DOT com is probably the easiest way to set it up.

Anyone have any questions about sporking bad slash? by
on 2010-02-26 00:43:00 UTC

I'm trying to write an article to go with Sedri's Mission Writing Guide specifically for anyone who wants to patrol the slash beat, and I've got a sort of basic outline for it, but I thought hey, why not actually find out what people want to know?
So here's the place to ask any questions, and also, if you are a slasher or have sporked slash, to provide your answers to people's questions or mention things you'd like to see talked about in the article :)

I didn't finish it - if I have time I'll read more - but from what I read, here goes:
I was impressed by your knowledge of The Silmarillion. I always enjoy it when writers work stuff from it into their stories.
I can tell that you're trying to avoid making her a Mary Sue, and it does help - she makes mistakes, and that's good. I particularly liked that you had her feeling guilty and sort of apologizing in chapter eight. She does still come off (at least to me) as a Sue because of her Sueish traits, e.g. rare hair and eye colors, special powers, and canon characters spending all this time around her.
As for the writing itself: it's OK to say "brown/green eyes" instead of "chocolate orbs" or "jade optical." You might also want to avoid having scenes that are just straight from the movie without anything changed or added - if you want to have a scene that's the same, try having a character's thoughts and feelings added or something like that.
There were some parts that I thought were funny, which is always nice.

I've been around since summer 2008, I believe, and since then there have been many on-and-off periods... so, who knows. But in any case it is nice to re-meet you.
(Also, designing the acoustics for theatres? You've reached new levels of nifty in my eyes. ^_^)

I kinda feel like if I'm going to do that I might as well see the whole Permission request, too, which kind of cancels out your reason for wanting a beta in the first place. ^^; Though I suppose I could just not be the one to give the Permission. Then perhaps Trojie could carry on without fear. *g*
>.> *checks for Trojie posting*
No. Okay then. ^^ Anyway, how you want to proceed is up to you, Bronwyn.

OT: looking for a beta by

I want to get this fic betaed before I'm tempted to add any more to it and ruin it, but my usual beta is away right now.
Would anyone be willing to do a technical beta on an R (possibly? Normally I just accept that it's an NC-17, but this stops before it goes any further than touching), ~1500 word slash fic with non/dub-con elements (an aphrodisiac-like drug is used).?

Cake is most sweet, and working on the building has been pretty awesome (even if it has taken up most of the past year of my life!). I'm doing the acoustic design for the opera theatre and the multipurpose studio theatre.
I haven't been around on the Board much in the last couple of years (even since starting full-time work, really), but was pretty active around three or four years ago. I still have three or four missions outstanding to finish (I've always been much better at starting things than finishing them).
I do remember your name, but can't recall how long you've been around, so you might have caught me on one of my delurking episodes.

Slash: Techno-Dann/Maslab by

"Yes, yes, that's it!" Techno-Dann cried in a fit of ecstacy. "Just a little bit more, you nearly had it!"
"I'm trying," Maslab moaned as he forced himself forward. "I'm trying my best! I just can't quite reach!"
At the door, Makari, Trojie, and Neshomeh listened with anticipation.
And then...
"Yeeeeeeees."
"I got it!" Techno-Dann sounded triumphant, and pleased.
There was the sound of three thudding noises, following three sights. Possibly of heads meeting the floor. Just possibly.
Techno-Dann and Maslab emerged from the back of the room.
"Thanks for helping me with those wires, Maslab," Techno-Dann said as he wiped some grime off onto his jeans.
"It's no problem. Now, how about we go get ourselves cleaned up?"
"We're not quite that dirty."
"Not quite what I meant," Maslab said, and he pulled the older Boarder in for a kiss.

I think 2, 3 and 6 are all mission-worthy. by

"Shifting Magic" isn't so bad yet, but Harry and Fenrir are being overly friendly for no real reason, and Fenrir is acting too much like a frightened dog/ugly animal friend.
"harry or jake" is definitely the worst of the lot, although you're right that it barely qualifies as a crossover.
"The Bargin" isn't exactly terrible, but Ax is being randomly violent, and Draco seems to know who the Ellimist is when they first meet. I also don't like that the Ellimist called Draco's magic "better" than morphing (arguably true, but I don't think he would say so to the Animorphs' faces). This would probably be the most interesting mission.
