Hahahahaha! But it is! The only way to stop it is if you come to my evil lair, perferably in some skintight costume that enhances your female attributes, in order to steal the secret Book of Retcons from my not-so secret vault oviously designed for an easy ambush! And no, I haven't read the Evil Overlord List. Why do you ask?

"I just dive into a fic headfirst - reading other people's (often uninformed and ill-thought-out) opinions just interferes with my ability to judge a fic on its own merit (or lack thereof.)"
I flick between reading the fic first and reading the reviews first. Sometimes, reading the reviews inspires me to read the fic, if only to understand what the hell the reviewers are babbling about.
"If the reviews are good at AFF, it's likely to be more smut, less plot."
Except with said Tomb Raider fic, where it had a lot of good reviews, but neither smut nor much plot (obviously, given that Lara died at the end of each chapter).
"If there's more 'omg, best story evar' and 'Dracos sooooo~oo hot!' than 'Well, this is good, but you should really work on these three points...' then I find that it's usually a pointless story."
Hmm... I'm not so sure that's a good rule of thumb. There are so many idiots on FF that I've had my fair share of those reviews, yet my beta readers come from here, so they can't be that pointless.
"If both types seem to be outweighed by the flames and otherwise negative responses, then it's dually not worth reading."
Or the author pissed off the author of a Suefic and the Suethor whined about it and got a load of counter-flames by her army of rabid readers. A friend had to delete her story once because she got hit by a load of those.

That's vaguely disturbing. Also, those types apparently don't care much about Miyano's personal happiness. Of course, those are just the foolishly foolish thoughts of foolish foolhardy fanbrats and their foolishly foolish over-obsessiveness. Foolish fools.

More bots, less humans... got it. by

Actually, that's what I planned: the main focus is on Starscream's attempt to (alternatively) dangle hope for a peaceful future in front of Prime, while at the same time guilting Prime into the deal (which involves Edith keeping Alvin) by turning Prime's 'talking points' back at him.
Themes like choice and freedom will be bandied about by Starscream, with him basically saying that if Prime cannot apply those words to Edith keeping her son, then they are the hollow words of a fool... a fool, coincidentally, who would care more for the same Government who tortured one of his soldiers than for the fate of his own species.
There is also, of course, some human stuff, but that's more along the line Miles trying to come to terms with exactly what role he wants to play. He wants to help Edith... but beyond that, in terms of re-starting a relationship with her or even the thought of being a family unit with his offsprng and genetomate; those are wild dreams, secret dreams. Plus dealing with the adoptive parents in an appropriate way, but I'm working on that.
Chuck in some more Robot stuff with Frenzy, Lazerwing, the Earthbots and a little slapstick and Sitcom-ery... we'll see where this planned series takes me.

He would. in an interlude, Drake does seem to know Lux. Mainyl that he doesn't get what she wants him to do.
DRake woudl do that. He is clueless and naive.
and as for the flashpatch thing, was just trying to think of various ways or theories for it to be spread. but it is the dorks, i guess. although why it did it, and effected all agents past and present, i have no clue. Sure that hS has a good reason though.

That said, I find it incredibly amusing and often quite thoughtful. I've read through the whole archive, and am considering another archive binge. What's really hooked me is Darths & Droids, by the same people, which continues in the footsteps of DM of the Rings by having Star Wars as a role-playing game.
But if something-over-2000 updates scares you, don't follow the link to mezzacotta. As nearly as I can tell, it has something for every day since January 1, 9,999,999,999,999 B.C. Yes, over ten trillion years in the past. Most of them (that I've seen; I'm not that crazy) are completely senseless, just two heads on independent dialogue tracks. (Mezzacotta, incidentally, is apparently an Italian rendering of the phrase "half-baked".)

Maybe a little Sue-y, but if you make sure to concentrate on the giant robots rather than the humans it should be cool. Of course, I'm no expert on Transformers canon. I saw the Bay movie, but not from a fannish perspective. I only went because I was promised giant robots blowing stuff up and I just can't resist that.

So, conclusions so far:
-We need to edit it a bit to indicate that C&D came in from Outside.
-We need to extend the fox-hunt before Ansela catches Drake.
-We need to sort out the Lux thing. This is a conclusion I've just invented, but it makes sense. As it stands, what happens is: Ansela claims Drake was waving the DORKS, Drake claims she gave it to Lux, and then reveals that's a lie. But Ansela would've known it was a lie, and Drake doesn't seem to have any reason to say she did and then revoke it (except that Kit felt like he'd driven me out of the thread or somesuch, which wasn't true :P). So that could do with making more sense.
I think we can agree that the genderbending is because of the DORKS... or can we? Kit keeps suggesting it's something to do with Drake's flashpatch, while it could also be the portal device MT rescued from the 'fic... but it's probably the DORKS. So the plot needs to centre around who has the blessed thing.
Hmm. How about (just a suggestion, now) we turn Drake's lie into the truth. Ansela never saw the DORKS, and Drake /did/ give it to Lux (or at least to someone). Then we can have a severely picked-on Drake forced to go along and try to help retrieve it, all while (if it is Lux) the genderbending takes on new quirks as Lux fiddles with the DORKS. Since you /know/ she'd do /something/, and don't I remember her fiddling with technology sometime during TOS?
... bother. You know /he'd/ do something, etc. Genderbent.
Okay, I don't know.

I know this may be me being cynical or something, but I have a bad feeling about this author's motivations.
A short while ago Zero's seiyuu, Mamoru Miyano, announced that he was newly married and that his wife was with child. Cue fangulls screeching that they hated Mrs Miyano and that they wanted her and the baby to die in horrible and painful ways. This may be unconnected, but it still gets me riled up anyway because of that exact shitstorm.
Luckily the handful of LJ communities dedicated to shows where Mamoru Miyano has a part were much more sensible, and any of that sort that snuck in were quickly shot down.

I just dive into a fic headfirst - reading other people's (often uninformed and ill-thought-out) opinions just interferes with my ability to judge a fic on its own merit (or lack thereof.)
You have to remember that AFF.n and FF.n are two very different audiences. People going to AFF are going to be looking more for smut than plot, and vice-versa at FF.n (mostly). If the reviews are good at AFF, it's likely to be more smut, less plot. If it's at FF.n, more plot (hopefully) and less pr0n.
Either way, I find most reviews to be most helpful when I compare the proportion of positive well thought out comments versus one-liners. If there's more 'omg, best story evar' and 'Dracos sooooo~oo hot!' than 'Well, this is good, but you should really work on these three points...' then I find that it's usually a pointless story. If both types seem to be outweighed by the flames and otherwise negative responses, then it's dually not worth reading.

I'd say the level of reviews are generally worse on AFF, unfortunately. I've seen utter dreck given rave reviews, simply for being 'hot', regardless of characterisation or plausibility, when it would get at least one negative comment on FF.net.
That said, I do tend to give decent reviews consisting of more than one or two words no matter what site I'm on (AFF, FF.net or LJ).

Oh, you've got to be kidding me. Beta reader - check out a bit of her beta profile:
"I easily pick out mary sues or out of characterness."
Oh really, author? Maybe you should take a glimpse at your own writing.
VK seems to have a lesser form of Gyakuten-Saiban-fanfic-itis, where almost all the romance is bad slashfic. Although this one has a mutation - an increase in the number of assbabies.
To tell the truth, I haven't had too much experience with VK-verse; this one was a request from a friend who dislikes badfic. Still, even I know OOC when I see it.
