Amber waited. Jokes about going to some spaceship and being KILL BY DEMONS made her smile, even as reality proved the spaceships to be in limited quantities and the demons all too real and in disturbingly large numbers.
Being a Trainee, she found herself in a position most actual Agents would've envied: long periods of downtime without the Console BEEP!ing every time someone needed a break.
Amber would've switched in a heartbeat. She wanted to go out there and face the demons. She wanted her Console to finally, at oh so very long last, blare to life and assign her a Trainer, a partner, a mission, anything.
But instead her Console remained as silent as always, ever since she was first assigned her RC.
She sighed. Waiting was always the worst part.

Erastide Preparations by

Ce’rana of Borune hummed softly as she pulled another stitch through, flicking her eyes back to the cloak hung from her tree. Time to change colors again, she thought as she compared the crest on its back to the incomplete copy on the cloth in her lap. She reached for her tiny, bird-beaked scissors to snip the blue thread short, then reached for the red spool to re-thread her needle.
Alex probably wouldn’t be happy if he found out Ce’rana had borrowed his cloak; it would be unavoidable come Erastide, but for now, her tree would keep quiet and it wouldn’t be difficult to hang it back where it belonged. The thing had been sitting in there untouched since they’d moved in, unless Alex had been using it when she wasn’t paying attention; there wasn’t much call for formal attire around HQ, especially not when it came to garments of situational practicality. In all likelihood, he wouldn’t even notice she’d gone into his wardrobe at all.
But even if he wasn’t wearing it often, Ce’rana had grown up around the Imperial Court. She knew how much a family crest meant, and there was nothing else this could possibly have been. Heraldry was the end-all be-all for some; in all likelihood that wasn’t the case for him given how rarely he displayed it, but still, having a hanging for his half of the room bearing something of such significance would have to be a joy.
The Dryad dipped needle back into cloth, humming a half-remembered melody to herself as she worked. Even if it turned out Alex hated this present, it would still be a gift given, and… well, maybe she wouldn’t enter it into the logbook after all. Even he deserved a break for Erastide.

Looking for Betas II: The Beta-ning by

Alright, this is my second time asking this year. I am looking for Betas too look over my permission request. My agents are a slacker and a vending machine (no really). Our slacker has been assigned to oversee the Cybertronian agent's probation. Hilarity ensues. I already have two prompts written and I have been eyeing a few Transformers and Gundam fics that I'd like to spork.

Seems like we've got just the right amount of angst. It is the Goldilocks of angst. ^_^
I'm sure Derik is fine with hugs if you catch him at the right time. Probably not just now, but maybe a little later. He's at least not against the idea on principle, unlike some people who live in my head. {= )

The Advent of Prompts by

So nearly Christmas, but not yet. Back to the traditional format of Prompts for this one (although Sprint Prompts will return). I'll be fair, I was thinking of doing some Christmas Prompts this time, but the next one after this will be the 24th... and that's just too perfect to miss. So until then, wait and wonder on these:
Prompt 1: One of your characters is waiting.
Prompt 2: It's the beginning of a new year, what's your character doing?

And just remember: all good things take time and effort... and this interlude is one of those good things. ;)
These two really do bounce nicely off each other - and they're more alike than they'd be willing to agree on.

After the effort we put into getting everything in the right place, it's great to hear it paid off. ^_^
MTG: Yes, we do! I guess you weren't around for this thread back in March? Seems like you would've been into it. {= )
Anyway, Derik is absolutely Red—Red/White, really, with a splash of Black if we want to go three-color.
Agent Thoth is on record as Blue/Red (like most if not all Thousand Sons), also with tertiary Black.
What about your guys? Phobos and I have the Dark Angels down as White/Black, but what do you think?

And by fun, I mean by Ix standards. >:) Lots of delicious angst to unpack here.
I want to give Derik so many hugs right now, but probably best that I don’t. It’s going to be interesting to see how their relationship develops moving forward!

Masterfully done. The way they rebound off each other is...complex yet somehow relatable. I very much look forward to seeing it from the other end in the next part.
Honestly, though, my favorite part is exploring the developing bond between the two. How it's full of emotion and tension without being cliche (not that I'd expect cliches from either of you) or overly angsty for the sake of being angsty. "Everything has a purpose...the Emperor ordains it so," and every word of this piece did exactly what it meant to do.
Side note, have we got M:tG alignments for either of them? Because Derik just screams Red to me.

First of all, this is not the Badfic Game, so please get your minds out of the gutter right now. If you're expecting THAT kind of story, you'll be disappointed. {; P
We hope you will enjoy further canonical stories about them, though, beginning with "Lessons," Part 1 (also available on Gdocs, if you prefer that).
More to come in less time than a whole dang year, we hope!

Nume: I could be.
No, you're not a fourth-wall breaker. I know we've walked up to that line sometimes, but do you really want to cross it?
Nume: I don't know. Will it get me off the damn back burner? I was hoping to complete a character arc sometime this century.
I'm wooorking on iiiit, jeeez...
Nume: Oh, really? Because from here it looks like Angsty McScarface is getting the lion's share of authorly attention, not to mention the self-indulgent Skyrim fic and assorted time-wasting BS. Why exactly does everyone but me get a fancy new RC, by the way? And don't say kids. Ilraen counts for at least two people and I can't drop half of him off at the Nursery; if anybody needs more square footage, it's us.
Okay, you know what, I have actual Real Life stuff to do today and I don't need to be whined at while I do it, so you're going back in the character box. Bye!
Nume: Do I at least get the big flask?
Sure, fine, take it. It's not practical at all.
Nume: Good thing I won't be needing to carry it while actually doing anything, then. Toodles.
Siiiigh.
See what you did, Ix? {= P

Dibs on the dark red rectangular box here in the bottom. The one which seems medium-sized. I've got a good feeling about this one.
