Kind friends and companions, come join me in rhyme
Come lift up your voices in chorus with mine
Come lift up your voices, all grief to refrain
For we may or might never all meet here again

Here's a health to the company and one to my lass
Let us drink and be merry all out of one glass
Let us drink and be merry, all grief to refrain
For we may or might never all meet here again

It's been a tense Permission Giver election. A total of 38 PPCers cast their votes; to put that in context, only 65 people posted to the Board last month total, and a fair few of those only made one or two posts.

And the voting was tight, all the way through. There was always the chance that one of our three candidates could pull out a lead - at various times, each of them was ahead - or fall behind. So how did they do?

Our ship lies at harbour, she's ready to dock
I hope she's safe landed without any shock
If ever we should meet again by land or by sea
I will always remember your kindness to me

The lines are closed, the votes have been counted and verified, and I can now reveal that this Big Brother parody has gone too far already the results. In alphabetical order:

Desdendelle: 29
Iximaz: 29
PoorCynic: 30

Yes, despite my transparent attempts to build tension, the votes stayed close all the way through. And that means it is with great pleasure I can hand out Permission Giver Hats to Desdendelle, Iximax, and PoorCynic. Congratulations, guys - and remember, though the work may be hard, if you stick with it, one day you too may... uh... end up with a bunch of new PPCers thinking you're the most ancient thing since sliced bread. Motivation! ^_^

My footsteps may falter, my wit might fail
My course may be challenged by the worst of the gale
Ere fortune shall prove to be friend or be foe
You will always be with me wherever I go

And of course there was a fourth candidate: Kaitlyn, the Oldest Boarder. This was the genuinely tense part of the election for me: she swung back and forward between 'yes' and 'no' the whole way. And the final results?

Yes: 15 (at least)
No: 12 (at most)

So with the greatest pleasure, I hand out a fourth PG hat, with accompanying congratulations, to Kaitlyn. In accordance with the discussion, she's probably going straight to 'Permission Giver Emeritus' status - so you may not see her handing out Permission any time soon, depending on how the discussion goes.

So there we are. Four new Permission Givers, ladies, gentlemen and starfish. Can we get three cheers?

Here's a health to the company and one to my lass
Let us drink and be merry all out of one glass
Let us drink and be merry, all grief to refrain
For we may or might never all meet here again

[To keep the main thread for what it should be - congratulations to our new PGs - I'll be creating sub-threads for the discussion of what PG Emeritus status should consist of, and for all the Protectorate of Plort/Barons stuff. Try to keep those confined where they belong, please]

[If you like Celtic folk-songs of the kind used to provide the soundtrack to this post, I highly recommend Heather Dale's recent album 'My Celtic Heart', which is where I learnt this one. Her store has samples for all her songs, and you should also be able to find her free album 'Perpetual Gift', if you want to get a proper feel for her style]
