“Baron Huinesoron, apparently,” noted the cowled monk, “cannot read. Excuse me – I need to catch up with him before he does something rash.”
Thanasius Ampelius took a running start and leapt, covering the ground between him and the departing Baron in a single bound. Oddly enough, for a moment – when he was at the apex of his leap – he seemed to briefly become like a giant raven; that might just have been his cloak, though.
“Baron.” The black-clad monk barred Huinesoron's way. “You insult me and King Gantz of Ydyff with your hasty action. Read the scroll again.” He shoved it into his hands. “I did not send that scroll. It bears the Royal Seal of Ydyff, not the Raven Volant. Furthermore” – his eyes narrowed – “you insult me by rejecting my hospitality and by implying that I would let the people here come to harm. Being the Lord Protector does not grant you the right to treat the Knights of the land as though they are common serfs.”
