"But I will not." Huinesoron shook his head. "If we are to speak of insults - you insult my intelligence by attempting to... imply that you were not suggesting you were considering such an alliance. As for the rest - an attempt to set yourself above the authority of the duly appointed governor of the realm, as you have done by asserting that I was spying, will most definitely harm the people of your barony - and all of Plort."

Baron Huinesoron swept out his arm, taking in the heights of the Wattufs that towered over them, and all the lands beyond. "Ours is a land under threat. The Marizu plot endlessly to bring us to ruin. We cannot afford the kind of internal discord you seem intent on provoking - the Union is not strong enough to withstand it.

"You are a Baron of Plort, over a realm you have yourself selected." Huinesoron drew a deep breath, and fought down the urge to continue with 'For Kanun's sake, act like one'. Fanning the flames was not the way to go. "You are... correct that you deserve the respect due your office. Therefore, out of... respect for the pressures that must be on you as you work to establish your barony, I will remove the person of the Lord Protector from your domains." He flashed the briefest possible smile. "No-one wants the management breathing down their necks, I am sure. And if, when your rightful authority," he placed the slightest stress on the word, "has been fully recognised among the people of your charge, you wish to extend your hospitality to the Lord Protector or to Baron Huinesoron, I - wearing whichever hat is appropriate - will be happy to accept."
