Construction of the Arpying Road was still ongoing as Baron Huinesoron rode along it. Fortunately, the clifftops of Barony Iximaz were grassy and level, so even the stretch between the road reaching out from Critta-Kalthin and the one rising to meet it from De'endee was an easy journey. As Keep De'endee came into sight, the baron turned to his companion.

"Impressive," he said, gesturing at the castle. "I wouldn't have thought she could raise a castle so quickly."

"The Lady Iximaz has had a lot of help," Freckles pointed out. "Sandra tells me the Knight Ion has joined her barony - at this rate, Critta-Kalthin will be larger than Ozerbord before the year is out."

"Not that that's saying much," Baron Huinesoron chuckled. "Our little capital isn't terribly impressive, is it?"

"Ah - no, my lord," Freckles agreed. "But still..."

"But still." Huinesoron looked at Keep De'endee again. "Well. With all these new vassals and allys, she should be eager to accept my proposal."

The two rode along in silence for a few minutes. Then Freckles tilted her head. "Uh, my lord..."

"You know that's not how I meant it," Huinesoron said. "Stop smirking."

"Yes, my lord."

"And don't you dare tell my wife."

The pounding on the door of De'endee would have been loud enough to wake the dead, except that Lady Iximaz would already have had them up and about helping to set up her barony. When the door was opened, it revealed Baron Huinesoron, decked out in rough travelling clothes.

The baron stepped into De'endee and looked around thoughtfully. "Impressive acoustics," he remarked, his voice echoing back from the far side of the Great Hall. "But I am not here to comment on the architecture. Please conduct me to Lady Iximaz."

Baron Huinesoron's proposal, once he laid it out for the resident baron, was simple. Ozerbord had need of sand, he explained - the fine sand that was found on the beaches around Critta-Kalthin. They would be willing to pay well for it - in currency, in food, in trade agreements, or in the still-secret end product of Barony Huinesoron's planned new industry. But, given the currently free-falling state of Barony Huinesoron's economy, he would need it soon. As in, 'how soon can you start digging?'.

[Trade agreements! ... stars, have I just turned Plort into The Phantom Menace? 'Wars? Pfeh. Magic? Blah. What this setting really needs is POLITICS AND NEGOTIATIONS.']

[Nah, don't worry. Things will get exciting again once I have my trade routes in place.]
