Request for a short-term DAVD beta by

Beta request
Reply
Hi, y'all, it's me making another beta request. I won't make another either on or off the Board again for a good long while, but let me offer a little context to explain why I'm doing it now.
As of right now, I have several missions queued up or already being beta'd by some helpful PPC folk (thanks again, everyone). I've written the chronologically-first one just a week or so ago and way after the rest, and my plan is to release them in chronological order in several weeks-long intervals. It might be a long time before I can start on that, since finals season in Transylvania is starting in less than two weeks, but I'd like to release at least the first mission in my queue before I disappear from the PPC studying-wise, hence me making this request. Like I said, I won't make another similar post here for at least a month or two - I feel like two beta requests at the same time on the Board are already pushing it a little. (Apologies if that's the case.)
Now, as for the mission itself: it's short (ten G'docs pages plus a three page-long interlude/epilogue); it is, however, set in the Disturbing Acts of Violence Department. Specific trigger warnings are available at the beginning of my doc, but... let's just say that you're going to need a relatively strong stomach. Nothing Legendary-level, but... a lot of tastelessness nonetheless. (As for those who have read my previous missions or are betaing the ones that come later: I know. I don't intend to turn every mission into a squickfest, but I have a high tolerance for Bleepfic and a great talent to run into it. I do plan on having some easier-to-read missions and several fluffier interludes in the near future, though.) My only request is for the mission to be finished sometime in the next two weeks so I can publish it before finals season starts here. If nobody is available in this interval, I'll just queue this up for publishing after I'm done with my exams. :)
Regards to anyone who wishes to help me with this mission,
Mirage
An edit I forgot to make: the canon in question is the first Fatal Frame game, but the fic doesn't follow it in the slightest; the mission has references to the franchise's canon here and there, but it's mostly my agents spelling out what's wrong with the fic and where it doesn't mesh with the existing storylines. It's more SPaG, sentence structure and other general writing stuff I need help with.

Could it be possible that the effectiveness of a mission as far as length goes might be related to editing/betaing time just as much as it's related to the length of the mission in pages? That'd also serve as a good point of comparison between a high-effort mission, an MST, and just nuking something.

I can't believe I'm getting to read one of your missions, that's just so neat! Your mission was lovely and you are perfect in every way! I hope one day I can write missions like that! And then everyone will like my missions and they'll like me! ((deep breath Charter above, I've been writing as my mirror self for two posts and I already feel the sugar coating the entirety of my mouth. I enjoyed the mission quite a lot- the idea of EPC agents getting irritated by parody fic brings a smile to my face. And seeing a Sue get rescued hurts my poor heart. By the Seven, he ruffled her hair!))

If I go to the trouble of explaining my plans, the least you could do is listen.
Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

*I assume you have installed a Tengwar font by this time.
((You're not missing anything with Morri/Morgan. Morgan's big thing is /not/ being an arrogant Gallifreyan (often), so going full Pretentious Name for her Mirror counterpart seemed appropriate. Morgan I chose to name herself after the Battle-Crow; Morgan III doesn't really live up to it. But she's a /mean/ drunk.))

Seriously, we can't have you fainting! You get that practice in. Can't wait to hear about your successful fifteen minute screaming session next :) You always have the best stories!

((Which is to say: I'm getting the feeling Mirror!Zing is in it for the drama to some extent, and apparently also likes trying to butter people up. I don't even know. Mirror Scape amuses me, though, as I mentioned above.
By the way--what in the world is a 'tizer'? I've never seen the word before. ~Z))

I don't like despairing. Besides, you're so much fun to be around! What's there to despair about? :)

((I'm not quite sure why I'm unleashing pet names on people, but...it's fun? Especially because it feels really off, partly due to context?
Also, Scape, mirror!Scape amuses me a lot somehow. ~Z))

I mean, if you want to create some lovely drama for us, I suppose I'll settle in with some popcorn, but bringing the whole community into it? Yawn.

A bit too short, but that's what sequels are for, right? ;)
Oh, do write more, there's a dear. It always brightens up my day :)

((I've been chewing over the idea of Mirror!Zing since this thread went up. So far, I've come up with just a little bit, to the effect of 'speaks her mind more frequently and with less worry about phrasing things correctly (apart from to get the best result for her--other people's feelings or misunderstandings aren't her concern)' and 'knows she seems innocent/harmless/sweet/friendly and, instead of trying to somehow shatter that image, which would probably be kind of difficult to do properly and annoying to keep working at, figured that the better way to go is to use it as much as suits her'. Basically, she's fine with being manipulative and frequently doesn't actually care much about how other people perceive her or react to what she says/does unless it's going to really inconvenience her.
...okay, looks like that's a more complete character than I'd thought. I may have even somewhat figured out how she talks now; we'll see, I suppose.
(Also, emoticons. Many emoticons. Overuse them. I left excessive punctuation more or less behind after early teenagerhood, but I could see mirror!me sticking a small handful of emoticons in everywhere.)
Re: the mission, I feel like I'm missing a joke with the Morrigan, and it's kind of jarring to see Agent hS not speaking, y'know, actual Tolkien languages, but that was very amusing and a fun read. The clones got me grinning right off, too. All in all, nicely done!
