My way of thinking is: the Borg assimilate a body, and improve that body in whatever way they can. Would a Borg within the Collective be improved by having working reproductive organs, or by having them shut down somehow? Given said organs aren't going to be used at all, thanks to the Borg assimilating rather than breeding asexually, any resources used by the body for the maintenance of the reproductive organs are resources wasted. Assuming the Borg are advanced enough to be able to supply their drones with some sort of implant or upgrade that will regulate their hormones and suchlike, I suspect a lot of the reproductive organs would be removed or otherwise shut down.

But she still had a cortical node (or something like that) which had to be very carefully removed before she could feel strong emotions, and her body constantly had to be supported by the technological implants in her blood and skull and...
In short, I doubt her body could take it. But there are no hard facts from canon on this, so I suppose it's up for interpretation.

Yeah, Pads and I were doing a sort of serial sporking of it chapter by chapter - it's a relief to know it's gone.
(btw by dint of assiduous research by Sedri we know that LBTWriter was in fact male, or at least claimed to be :) )
O frabjous day, calloo, callay!
Glad you enjoyed the interlude, too!

It looks like there are others who share our love of humor and good writing by bashing those not worthy of the term, "writing". (It only targets badfics of the anime sort, unfortunately. I would like more who target bad Harry Potter.)

This was really nice to read after looking at possible future missions. I laughed. A lot.
And... I really, really, really, apologize for bringing the next topic up, (especially if it causes horrible flashbacks), but the news is Good News. Hopefully.
I was looking for a certain reviewer of L x C by way of LBTwriter's profile earlier today and... L x C and the other story that ghastly author wrote are gone. Deleted, apparently. It probably wasn't the writer herself, based on how protective she was of her writing, so I'm guessing the admin of ff.net finally got their rears in gear and got rid of it themselves. Unfortunately, LBTwriter wasn't banned. But at least this way you can see proof, if you wish.

I don't know if this was helpful, and I really hate to bring it up, but since you seemed to be the one PPCing it, I thought you might want to know.

...I think not. If there are in-built safeguards to prevent drones from getting too emotional, I imagine there would be safeguards against biological "infestations". And there is, you know, the armour that keeps anything biological from going in or out.
If possible, it would be a way to increase their numbers, but they just don't seem to need that, since infants don't provide much new data to assimilate.
That said... there is nothing in canon to say definitely not, but I think it unlikely.

She does take the consequences. But she does have rather a lot of the symptoms. Tamora Pierce just writes her characters much better and that helps to balance it, per say. I guess it depends on your perspective.

The other characters are not warped from themselves because of her. Alanna alienates people because of her short temper. Her actions have consequences.
The other things can be symptoms of a Sue, but they aren't the things that make one.
Too many people keep making that mistake. It's rather exasperating.

The Old Republic Beta Request by
on 2009-07-25 11:15:00 UTC

Because I’m a total wacko, I ignored writing one of my many, many in progress fics to start a new one, a possible short series of short stories. I’m asking for a beta. It’s a Star Wars story, but it’s set just before The Old Republic, BioWare’s upcoming MMO. While I usually want to write something for unreleased games or films, never before have I just sat down and wrote without anything backing me up but a vague timeline, a single piece of concept art (albeit sodding awesome) and a trailer (that, obviously, does Attack of the Clones better than Attack of the Clones did). Regardless, I came up with a prologue to my story and I’m looking for someone to tell me how to improve it (and probably come up with a better title).
As next to nothing is known about The Old Republic, any Star Wars beta reader should be fine, but a vague knowledge of Knights of the Old Republic might be helpful (though unlikely). All you really need to know is that the Sith just came back and just totally pwned Coruscant and the Jedi Order. Thanks in advance,
Jade

and all I could think was "WTF is going on?"
I didn't see much female supremacy (my eyes skipped over every second letter), but if there is some, that calls for massacre in most circumstances for such stupidity and bad fanfiction is definitely one that deserves murder for that brand of dumb. The only time I allow nonsense like that on my interwebs is in a theoretical work (which actual research behind it rather than actual bullshit).

Get the fic away from me!
If I didn't have too much other crap to do (and if I had the first clue where to start), I'd probably write a Tortall/LotR crossover. However, chances are, I'll find myself drafting a plot anyway.

Wild Magic was mine too. And I love the Twilight comparison. :D For me, though, it was Skysong that made me squee. I'd take lovable dragon kit to talking over animals any day. It may explain why I want to copy the idea in any similar fantasy I write. *hugs Skysong* Someone needs to make a Skysong plushy. I'd totally buy that. :P
And yes, Alanna came along a century after the last female knight had died. Fortunately, Keladry came along in less time. :P
As for the training, exactly. I'm using that as help for part of the draft for one of my fics, training Heroes. A Hero in the fandom is basically a knight/samurai/Jedi (including a magical power known as Force Push :D). It's difficult to know what pushes them over the boundraries of Sue in the training and what would actually happen had these guys existed.

I haven't read these books for years! Shh! :P I had remembered though, vaguely, about Jonathan and George. Jon marries Talia, isn't it?
But yeah, I agree that it's how the character is written that does it. Otherwise, I'd be utterly screwed every time I tried to write a Jedi or similar.

Anyone remember Agent Janus and how he'd apparently beaten the Department of Bad Slash in a squickfic reading contest at some unspecified point in his past? And which his author, when called upon it, hurriedly changed to him losing?
Well, a plotbunny was born that day, and while it has taken some time to come to fruition, as it were, here is the interlude it spawned:

Rated R for the mentions of details of Celebrian. Warnings for general DBS insanity, hilarity and stupidity. Enjoy!

That plagerism is less of a worry than the fact that she's so awkwardly forced the two worlds together. What you need is an Untangler - plagerism itself is just a (particularly important) charge.
