Actually, they don't say they copy-paste stories. They say they adapt them using certain tools and methods but keeping the core of the story. Keeping the core of the story sounds to me like: taking the plot and rewriting the whole thing.
I can't judge on whether they did that as they don't quote source. Proper research requires you to give others enough information so they can replicate your experiment. In this case that would mean acknowledging where the core of the story came from.
That, and the fact that half the profile is made up of copy-paste statistics make it that I do not take this person seriously. Though I find the first paragraph very intriguing and would really like to see some research like that.

Links to badfic authors, please? by

I should've put this in the other thread, but oh, well...
For sake of variety (and, in many cases, Morbid Curiosity), I'd like to send my interview questions to a few badfic authors and see what comes back. I'm a bit scared of what they might say, but it's all in the name of research. *chants* the name of research... the name of research... the name of research...
Anyway, since the wiki's not exactly available in full right now, I can't get links to the Legendary Badfic authors (LittlefootxCera author, for instance), so I appeal to you for links to any particularly annoying badficcers or RPF writers (not the plagerist trolls, though) that you know of. I'm skimming FFN now for stereotype Suethors - there's certainly enough of them, so I'm going for those who are active (ie, posted recently).
... Let me also note, for the record, that I'm going to cut the question about OFUs and the PPC out of interviews I send to them, to avoid drawing flames if they find us. Oo, that sounded very Secret Agent-ish, didn't it?
I ramble. Shutting up.

Is that first, he says he will not respond to accusations of plagiarism, then he goes on to explain how he will retaliate. Retaliation is a form of response, genius.

Once again, a link to the new wiki. Please keep this one in mind for links.
The whole database wasn't moved, so I've done my best to upload what I could. As anyone can tell with a cursory search on there, there are quite a few holes right now, but I'm doing my best to make sure I get everything back up. It's hard to tell what's missing though since the 'Wanted Pages' page has yet to update to show me this.
I'd be more than grateful if people would start signing up on this wiki and helped get it back in order; for instance, many, if not all of the redirects that were in place seem to have died, but this might be due to the fact that everything is taking awhile to get back into place. I don't really know for sure.
In the case of articles that were lost in the move, it'd be brilliant if I could get the saved HTML versions from you, Wandering Critic, since you mentioned your spider had collected them all. As it is though, I'm not sure which/if any were lost since some pages are being tricky and displaying red links to pages that I know for certain are already up. I'm figuring this is due to confusion on the part of the software.

Is the Dept of Character Protective Services still active? by

Because I've finally got fed up to the back teeth of Narnia RPSlash, and while they're not characters as such, I'd like to take on the task of sporking fic that pairs William Moseley, Skandar Keynes and Ben Barnes, in any combination of the above, and would make a new Agent character for the job.
Ideas, quibbles, suggestions etc gratefully accepted.

Yep, sure, that makes sense. And is perfectly legal as well. (note sarcasm)
Seriously, does he honestly think he can do that? And that's a bit of an extreme response to comments...how exactly is he planning to retaliate, anyway?

Request for a beta reader (Undergrads fic series). by
on 2008-08-10 00:52:00 UTC
Reply
My request is a brief one.
First of all, I need someone to beta read an non-PPC fic since my co-author, beta and high school friend has basically fallen off the face of the internet (for the summer anyways).
My first chapter-first draft is ready, And I would prefer someone with knowlwdge of or interest in the animated MTV series UnderGrads. This is the first chapter of a series of 12 or 13 "episodes", so I'd prefer a long term beta-reader.
A person with insights into dormitory life, especially in older structures with degrading "aesthetics" would also be valuable for this story.

Also, it seems to be anime-verse rather than manga-verse, since there is a mention of Mustang killing doctors in the Ishvalan War, which he only did in the anime.

I'm still trying to figure out all of the canon failure present in that fic.
So far I've counted two mini-Chimeras (Alicia and Isball), three if you count 'state alchemist' which should be capitalised, severe urpleness of prose, implying that Hughes was a State Alchemist, implying that Mustang was in the Investigations Department with Hughes, implying that Mustang didn't kill himself during the Ishvalan War because of honour (he would have done it if Marcoh hadn't intervened), making Mustang suicidal about Hughes' death, killing him in an extremely pathetic manner and making Mustang drink an impossible amount of alcohol without passing out or throwing up.
Is that of any use to you?

But you can participate in roleplays and volunteer them for cameos and suchlike. You can introduce them, too, if you want.

The new Wiki has been set up.
Hopefully one of the Wikia people will be helping get everything from the old wiki's database over there before everything is deleted, but if this is not the case, I've already exported all of the articles (if not talk pages and user pages) so those can be imported if that doesn't work.
Thanks to everyone that offered to help or did help in attempting to preserve everything, and hopefully we'll have this wiki completely set up again before the weekend is over.

"Theory on literature" indeed. Gag me with a spoon.
I wonder if he takes stories from people who leave reviews. Cleo-Alektryon left a review on "The Cannibal Flame," which was published a day before "Draco Malfoy and the Shadowed Fate."

Don't think I'm defending this creep, but speed does not in and of itself make a good beta. If I take on beta work, I expect to read through it at least twice before sending it back to the author, and then I usually have questions for them to address in addition to basic corrections. That means another read-through after they've answered my questions with fixes; rinse and repeat if I'm still not satisfied. It takes time.
That's why I don't really do beta-reading these days. I don't have that kind of time during the school year.
~Neshomeh, who plans to do this sort of thing for a living.
