He's called Janix, after his father's childhood imaginary friend. If he was a girl, he'd have been called Zenria, after a dream his mother once had. Poor boy. The kids are school are all going to call him Jane.

There are plenty of badfics and Mary Sues in the Fairytale portion of the Pit. Is there policy regarding PPCing those stories? I know that fairy tales are common property and most of the main characters are Sues anyway (Cinderella, Snow White, etc.), but not all fairy tale characters are Sues. And I've always loved fairy tales so seeing what people do to them in the Pit is extremely frustrating.

If this has already been discussed could someone send me the link?

Everyone has written Sues. It's the nature of the beast. The fact that you know and have admitted that several of your creations are Sues means you are way further along than any Suethor.
I would like to offer my help to along with all the wonderful people who have already done so. And I don't think you're a wangsty little brat.

The author wanted to parody My Immortal, which she did by copying the story as well as she could, and elaborating the original author's mistakes.

There's really no reason to get this upset over it. Sit back and enjoy the lulz! *grin*

Have you seen Baby's Named a Bad, Bad Thing? It's like sporking, but for the monikers some parents force on their unfortunate offspring.

Actually, I was deathly afraid of that, too. I am, sort of.

But I think what's important is to go through with the idea. Go on and charge with it. See where you end up. Everyone can improve; it's admitting and accepting help that seperates people.

If you don't want to ask for permission, Lynx, don't; it's not like people will throw things at you for not doing so. But I, along with the others, volunteer to look at some of your stuff if you need it. (Not that I'll be much of a help... -_-;;)

Actually, in Real Life I have a fairly unusual name, in the sense that I constantly have to tell people how to spell it, but aside from a brief stint at the age of eight when I wanted to be "Catherine", I like my name; it doesn't qualify as truly "strange".

That, and the fact that I met a Russian man named Voldemort (that is his actual name, he showed us his passport!) at a dance festival this month has got me thinking about wierd and wonderful things NOT to name your RL children.

Obviously such gems as "Peaches" and "Fi-Fi Trixabelle" come to mind, but has anyone actually encountered odd names at school or work? They must be real names, not nicknames!

I used to know a "James Bond" whose brother was in my class in Junior school. I also once met a child called "Dolphin Smith". Anyone got any other odd ones?

Lynx, I think the fact that you're so concerned with getting it right is what makes the major difference. I know of very, very few Sue writers who are willing to admit that their stories might need work - the willingness to accept criticism makes a huge difference.

I won't offer to help, as there are already quite enough people doing so (and I'm rather swamped with work just now...), but I really suggest you try; even if you're never going to be the best writer around, I completely believe that anyone who tries hard enough can produce something decent.

And if not - fine. Everyone understands. And you can still create agents to join with the role-playing here on the Board.

I will admit to not having yet been sober enough to read through it properly, but I did peek to check the cameos, and they did make me grin. Someone kick me to remind me to read again when sober.

I do recall a couple of grammar moments that made my inner Nazi tense; if the same happens when I get around to the sober reading, I'll be volunteering beta services next time. However, it is entirely possible I imagined them, as I totally could not quote any, what with being not sober then and not sober now. *makes mental note to start checking the Board before hitting the bottle in future*

I've been watching this thread since July decided to say something, and it's been a couple of days, and we've heard nothing from Fichunter. There has been no response to this entire thread from her/him. That in itself says a lot. The entire thread seems to contain references to "senior" Board members, and that's not the way it's meant to work here, which means, in effect, anyone can object, but few dare to. So kudos to July for being the one who dared to.

And I will also volunteer to look at your stuff, Lynxihez, and quibble with you over any Sueish aspects and how to make them non-Sueish. Glod knows, as other Boarders could tell you, I've been critical enough of late when it comes to potential Sueishness; it'd be a fine thing to see a Sue whose author actually wants to fix her, and be able to help with that. Even if you're not planning to publish anywhere (even online), we're still happy to talk over how and why you're writing, and happy to try to help you improve.

The name's not ringing a bell, but that could be due to my vendetta against the Poles stopping me seeing Board posts. Can we have a writing sample? Writing samples are generally good, in terms of permission-giving and -receiving.
