So you admit that you skirt your duty? No, scratch this. Insults will take us nowhere.

You have some right to accuse me of sticking my nose out too far, since the Riding's form of government really should be none of my concerns. The letters that upset you so much were an attempt to rectify this failure by finding some prospective Riders and make them speak for themselves.

But you, Sir, should stick your nose into the Council’s affairs, because it is your duty as a Baron.

Your idea of a series of tests actually makes sense, although you neglected to say who will devise these tests. If leadership seems necessary, the leaders should be found by reasonable means. Why don’t you take this to the Council, to discuss it with your fellow Barons, rather than writing letters to me, whose business this should not be?
