For I sees through thy pretty words. Milady Iximaz's wars upon the hated scourge o' the sea that is the Marizu, it do depend upon the sea an' her tradin' ships. I knows this, milord, for I do have to read the Barony's books when I do balance 'em. The grain traders of Critta-Kalthin buy up their wares from all across our noble nation, milord Baron - an' if this Ridin' will not sell to traders who wish to send our grain abroad, then that's less duties for milady's war chest. Instead, thy old army gets fed, for 'tis thee as has most to gain from the arrangement. Thyself, with thy raggedy armies, trapped as th'art beneath the grindstone o' poverty, aye, thou wouldst be in a fine position to go a-raidin' once more. My mistress? Her star wanes with that, for she can gain less from her privateerin' with no spare coin for ship repairs an' such. Milady wanes as milord waxes, an' the old order o' things do endure like maggots in a midden. You hurt her, my Lord, you do her most grievous hurt if you do this - and since she's ten times the raider you ever was, old gamekeeper, you hurt your war. Our war.
Though that be just my own readin' o' your letters' shape, milord. I be but simple country folk, an' not well-versed in thy most courtly turns of phrase.

Yeah, that's not a bad idea. City rights are extremely important, and port town sounds a lot more... well, parochial's the best word I can come up with... than port city.
Also, I'm trying not to have my charrie argue too vociferously against this course of action, because it's obvious Baron You wants to push it through and there is such a thing as needless expense of political capital, but such actions really would hurt Barony Iximaz a hell of a lot more than I think Baron You realises. Wars are expensive, after all, and you can't eat glorious victory. =]
